Before Fasting Tip:

I knew I was going to need a fasting drink crutch. I don’t think I could have done as well if I didn’t have my Pique Green Tea that Dr. Fung has created. It does not stop autophagy and does NOT stop fasting.

Before:

While I struggled with weight loss all of my life, my story really begins with the birth of my son. After an extremely rough pregnancy, he was born prematurely, and while I felt like my body had just given me the greatest gift in life, it left me with a lot of pregnancy weight and an uncontrollable binge-eating habit.

While I had never been completely satisfied with my weight, I couldn’t fathom how I had possibly let myself get that big. I felt defeated, like I had “let myself go” even though I was constantly obsessing over trying to lose weight. I had gone from being a varsity athlete to being in so much pain, both physically and emotionally. This led me to look into gastric bypass surgery because I thought it was my only option for how obese I felt. This got so bad that I wanted to hide my body from others, and barely left my house.

During:

I knew that my relationship with food was unhealthy, and I wanted to fix that. I had previously seen some success with Atkins “Low Carb Diet Program” so I gave it a shot again. This is when I realized that this high-fat, low-carb diet was both effective and doable for me, so I decided to do some more research into it. That was where I discovered the glorious Keto diet!

The Keto diet changed my life forever. After starting it, I began to lose weight, start learning a lot about my health, and most importantly, my binge-eating stopped. I continued to do more research into my health and eventually did an interview with Dr. Ken D Berry, where he recommended that I try intermittent fasting. At first, I was extremely reluctant. I thought that with an eating disorder background, it would ruin all my progress.

That was when I learned that our bodies natural biorhythms are to fast and feast, or to eat and then not eat for a while. With this style of diet, human bodies function at their prime. In fact, intermittent fasting has a ton of health benefits. Autophagy is one of these benefits, which can even help prevent against genetic degenerative diseases. Having a family history of Alzheimer’s disease and cancer, this was the selling point that led me to try intermittent fasting.

Tips I Learned:

I learned to love water. Like really love it.

Know what stops a fast and what keeps you going longer. My Beginner Intermittent Fasting course helps to focus in what breaks a fast and what helps you stay in a fasting state.

Ensure you have 1 teaspoon of salt per day. You will need it for electrolytes and body functions. I LOVE Redmonds mini shaker.

Have clear cut book ends of starting fasting time and ending fasting time. I go through this more in my Beginner Intermittent Fasting course as this will determine success of fasting failure.

After:

I started with a 16 hour fast and 8 hour eating window. What astonished me was how much easier it was to fast than I thought it would be. I found that by eating with my body’s natural biorhythm, I didn’t have to think much about eating or not eating. In fact, I started losing weight by NOT obsessing over it.

And that brings us to now! I’m still a “thick milkshake” in some parts, but my journey is still continuing! I’m proud of all of the progress that I’ve made, and I know that intermittent fasting will give me the tools and resources to get where I want to be. I hope that this before and after inspires you to continue with your own journey of progress!
